Was really hoping to see a much better time out of the Nismo. Especially it being an auto vs the other two cars being stick shifts.
if Toyota ever does a GRMN version or even just a simple track package, it’s going to be game over.
I've now pulled my Z deposit, between what Camisa says about the car, the Savageese comparo to the Supra and now seeing the Z pitted against the 1LE, the car seems to be a big disappointment dynamically.
@dezoris excellent review.
Can you guys speak to the rev limiter at all by chance? Silly question I know. Jason Cammisa mentioned that once the car hits redline (@ 7K RPM) it will cut power until revs drop below 6K RPM. Was that your experience as well? If so that seems like a terrible design...
Not quite, roll stiffness can be controlled with springs, which absolutely would make the ride harsher but it can also be controlled with ARB's and bushings, which can improve roll stiffness without having too much of an adverse affect on harshness.
Again though, definitely didn't expect the Z...
Again I don't think this thing will be in the same wheel house as the Track Pony's, nor did I expect it to be, heck I'd be surprised if even the Nismo version could (if it ever comes out). I was at least somewhat hopeful that the Z Performance would be on par with a Supra but that's looking...
It is possible to have more roll stiffness without making it to too harsh to drive on the street. Besides, this is meant to be the "Performance" trim, if folks want a softer ride they should be sticking with the "Sport" trim IMHO.
There is no way the new Z will be even close to the SS 1LE/PP2/Mach 1 on a track, I don't think anyone expected it to be. The question for me is how much slower than the Supra will it be? The Supra is already 5+ seconds back from the Track Pony's at C&D Lightning Lap (granted it's a bit...
I hear you on the N54 PTSD, I had a 335 with the N54 and it was a nightmare, the B58 is a much better and far more reliable engine. I've got a 340i now with the B58 (and my name on the list for a '23 Supra 🤣)
Wow does it look like it's seriously lacking some roll stiffness. It's rolling around like a wet noodle with those tires while being driven at a fairly pedestrian pace. :rolleyes:
